Steps to Obtain Insurance License - General Overview

This article provides a general overview of the steps required to obtain an individual resident insurance license in the state of California . . . . 


STEP 1 - COMPLETE PRELICENSING COURSE

Complete an approved prelicensing course (preferably with Upward Bound!) for the license type(s) you wish to obtain. Be sure to get your Certificate of Completion issued for the prelicensing course you're taking by meeting all of the requirements for completing the prelicensing course.

STEP 2 - PASS YOUR STATE INSURANCE EXAM

Sit for and PASS your state insurance exam which is administered by a third party company called PSI Exams.  (Please note that you can schedule your state insurance exam date BEFORE you complete your prelicensing course with Upward Bound. However, you'll want to complete your prelicensing course and have your Certificate of Completion issued before you take your state insurance exam.)

STEP 3 - APPLY FOR YOUR INSURANCE LICENSE

AFTER you've passed your state insurance exam, you'll need to submit a licensing application to apply for your insurance license(s). Your licensing application will be submitted and managed online through a third party company called Sircon (www.sircon.com) that the state of California contracts with to handle the licensing application submission process.
